Taunting with Tanya
Funny. When you're recovering from surgery, you have all sorts of time on your hands. You can google a lot of stuff. Something on the TV reminded me of someone I thought I knew. So I googled. Didn't expect to find anything new, but I did. Guess who I found on YouTube? That's right folks, the late, great dottedstripes. Do you know that within 7 minutes of my sending a message to the dotted one, her (?) videos disappeared...

...but not before I caught a screen capture of one.

Flown the Coop

Empty Nest
Well, well. My how time flies! The little ones have already flown the coop. Maybe the nest wasn't abandoned in years past. Maybe they just grow up and leave home in record time. Speaking of flying:

A stranger was seated next to a little girl on the airplane when the stranger turned to her and said, "Let's talk. I've heard that flights go quicker if you strike up a conversation with your fellow passenger."

The little girl, who had just opened her book, closed it slowly and said to the stranger, "What would you like to talk about?"

"Oh, I don't know", said the stranger. "How about nuclear power?"

"OK", she said. "That could be an interesting topic. But let me ask you a question first. A horse, a cow, and a deer all eat grass, the same stuff. Yet a deer excretes little pellets, while a cow turns out a flat patty, and a horse produces clumps of dried grass. Why do you suppose that is?"

The stranger thinks about it and says, "Hmmm, I have no idea."

"Do you feel qualified to discuss nuclear power when you don't know shit?"

Mortal Enemies

The Cat
The Nest
The Babies
Every year the house wrens build a nest under our deck. Ususally something makes them give it up, but this year they stuck it out. Elmo has watched mama/papa bird make trips out to the yard and back under the deck. He's fascinated by them and whatever it is they are doing. He wishes he had x-ray vision so he could see what's going on right beneath his feet.

Today I heard tiny little chirp-chirps and both Elmo and Struts were at full attention to the corner of the deck. Mama cat even leapt off the deck to get a closer look at the potential kitty-appetizers. After I snagged her and tossed her in the house, I got a closer look at what's going on below...

Ugly from any angle
Really ugly
Here's some ugly things for you. Two shots of one of the ugliest bugs that haunts my yard. Only the cicada comes close. The third picture is really ugly. The most straight laced guy at my place of work was in charge of getting the beer for a company function. Not only was it amusing to overhear him negotiating the transaction, but he called around for price quotes. It's a college town. The kegs are dirt cheap and he's looking for the best buy...Bill Gates, watch your back. There's an up and comer here in the heartland.
