Maverick

Today Maverick is a bad dog. You see, she has this one very, very, VERY bad habit. No, it's not killing squirrels, that's a very good habit. No, she likes to roll in things she has no business rolling in. I wouldn't mind it if it was something simple like dirt or mud or even some dead animal. No, she has one favorite thing to roll in. We have a flock of wild turkeys that crosses our land each morning and night and Maverick (bad dog, BAD DOG) likes to roll in fresh, stinky, smelly turkey poop. Today she got a bath and had to spend the rest of the day confined to the deck or walking on a leash. It's not the first time this has happened and I STILL don't think she learned her lesson.....

Today I planted tiger lilies, star gazer lilies and calla lilies. I can't show you pictures of them because right now they would just be little depressions of dirt in the flower bed. But there are other blooms in the yard. Today the plum tree and the redbud looked especially nice.

Turtle Study

He likes the log in the middle of the pond
The approaching camera people are of no concern

There are at least three turtles in our pond. DJ & I saw two of them today and last year I spotted a 25 pound snapping turtle that I gave a wide berth to. Here are several shots of the painted turtle that DJ swears is the one that he and his friend Matthew played with last year. He certainly wasn't camera shy. His buddy dropped into the water before we could even get near the pond but this guy is some kind of ham and stuck around for an entire photo shoot. I think he knew I'd rather die than wade through the mucky pond water to get near him.

Spring is here...

Sunning on a log, reflected in the pond
...hearalded by the arrival of various green and flowered things. But today's photo is the turtle in the pond. I'm pleased to see they made it though the winter.
