I am saved from having to mingle with drunken college students for the Apple Drop by snow. We've got a little over an inch at mid-afternoon and while the pavement is too warm for it to stick there, my tires are at the end of their tread life and I'd rather not chance slippery and slushy if I don't have to and I don't have to.

I'm house sitting for someone new this week. One of my co-workers is off to Florida as chaparone on her daughter's band trip (they're performing at NASA and Disney World). It's a cool "old" house in Wamego, likely built around the turn of the century. High ceilings; real hardwood floors; massive wood trim pieces. It's had updates to plumbing, electric, kitchen and bathrooms, but all keeping in character with the original dwelling. There's a cat and a dog that both like to snuggle so I'm getting my animal fix. We've got a fire in the fireplace around which the little furry ones are gathered. I've just brewed a bone warming pot of decaf and thought I'd take advantage of the DSL to post some pictures.

Hope you all had a very Merry Christmas, or whatever flavor of December celebration you may subscribe to and that the new year brings you many good things.

Confidential to Ms. Stripes: Just don't over-do the table scraps (i.e. make them a treat, not a meal). Like anything else, moderation is the key. Unless there's something medically amiss with an animal, their nutritional needs are best met by foods made specifically for them. If you run into something that doesn't agree with kitty, I'm sure you'll find out all about it in the litter box I will tell you that the better quality food you feed, the less quantity you need to feed and the less you'll be cleaning out of the litter box.
